Quelling Inflammation Using Just your Smartphone

Founded in March 2025 by three veteran pioneers in wearable technology, Quellios is developing an innovative approach to understanding how diet impacts individual health and inflammation. The company’s patent-pending Snap & Sense™ platform combines nutrition AI with bio-optical machine vision to transform a smartphone into a personal inflammation measurement and guidance system.

Quellios is focused on addressing one of healthcare’s most significant global challenges: chronic inflammation. Inflammatory diseases contribute to more than half of deaths worldwide, yet most individuals have little visibility into how their daily choices impact inflammation levels. Diet is known to play a major role, but responses vary significantly from person to person, making it difficult for individuals to identify the foods that may be triggering symptoms or long-term health risks.

Using the Quellios platform, users simply snap a photo of their meal and complete a fingertip scan using their smartphone camera. The company’s Snap AI technology analyzes nutritional composition, while its Sense AI engine applies bio-optical machine vision to evaluate inflammation-related microvascular patterns and physiological responses. The system is designed to provide users with personalized inflammation insights, symptom flare-up warnings, and adaptive dietary guidance that improves over time.

Initially targeting the consumer wellness market in digestive health, longevity, and human performance, Quellios sees significant opportunity in a rapidly growing market estimated to exceed $1 trillion globally.

The company is currently bootstrapped by its three founders and has also received grant funding support from NC IDEA. In addition, Quellios is pursuing NIH grant funding through a collaboration with Duke University. The company is currently raising a $1 million pre-seed round to support the transition of its Quellios Alpha prototype into a commercial Beta release.

Quellios credits the North Carolina Small Business and Technology Development Center with providing valuable support throughout its commercialization journey, particularly through constructive feedback on fundraising materials including its pitch deck and executive summary, as well as guidance related to nondilutive grant funding opportunities.

Looking ahead, the company is focused on two major objectives: completing its Alpha launch initiated in April 2025 and successfully securing pre-seed investment funding to accelerate development of its commercial Beta platform.

As the Quellios team noted when reflecting on the commercialization journey so far: “It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock & roll.”
