Ball's Machine & Manufacturing

Ball’s Machine & Manufacturing Co.

Gary & Janet Ball | Candler, NC

A 40 year old business, Ball’s made it through the Great Recession by diversifing their custom machining into solar energy systems. During the transition, Ball’s worked with the SBTDC to develop a business plan and financial projections to get a loan refinanced, saving the company over $3,000 per month in interest expense, saving 16 manufacturing jobs.

Glenn Flaherty & Tom Robinson | Kernersville, NC

The SBTDC has been with ERD from the start of their industrial electronic repair company. Recently, ERD has expanded internationally after a counselor called about a grant available to travel to Thailand for a trade show. They’ve seen double-digit revenue growth and have hired four additional employees and are expanding their customer base into Hong Kong, Beijing and South America.

Brinkley’s describes themselves as the “old-timey, country hardware store.” They came to the SBTDC when a nearby paper plant closed and they began losing traffic to the store. With the help of a workforce development grant, they’ve sent two mechanics into specialized training and expanding their engine parts department. In the last year, sales have increased by 15%.
