Kim Mayer, PhD

Dr. Kim Mayer is the Statewide Technology Commercialization Director at the North Carolina SBTDC, a business development service of The University of North Carolina. Kim provides programmatic direction for the SBTDC’s technology development and commercialization initiatives statewide, including counseling, training, SBIR/STTR support and equity capital formation. Kim was previously a Technology Commercialization Counselor with the SBTDC at NCSU.

Kim earned a PhD in Genetics and Biochemistry from Purdue University in 1999 and a BS in Biology from UNC-Charlotte in 1995. She also earned an MBA at UNC-Wilmington in 2009 where she was a Visiting Research Assistant Professor and Business of Biotechnology Fellow. Before joining the SBTDC, Kim spent nearly four years at a successful agricultural biotechnology start-up company in RTP and six years performing postdoctoral fellowship work at Caltech and Brookhaven National Laboratory.
