Selling to Local Government

There are numerous opportunities to sell to local governments in North Carolina. Some examples include, police and sheriff departments, fire departments, health departments, housing authorities, parks and recreation, libraries, courts, etc. Many municipalities and counties list their requirements on the state’s Interactive Purchasing System (IPS). However, many do not, therefore, businesses should market directly to local governments.

Companies interested in selling to local governments should review the appropriate web site under the Directory of NC Counties, the Directory of NC Cities and Towns, or the Directory of School Purchasing Offices in North Carolina for further information.

When you review web sites remember to search under “departments” to identify the purchasing department. It may sometimes be found under the Finance Department. Many of these communities now provide procurement and vendor registration information on their web pages.
