Deputy State Director
Byron has broad business and entrepreneurial skills and experiences. Byron is a Certified Economic Development Professional. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a Minor in Economics from Elon University. Byron has served as the ASU Regional Center Director prior to being named Deputy State Director. Byron has served as Chair of the Catawba County Chamber Edison Business Competition committee, Lincoln Entrepreneurship Growth Group Advisory Board and as a panelist for the CVCC Funding Summit. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Continuing Professional Education Committee for the NC SBTDC and on the Advisory Board of the Transportation Insight Center for Entrepreneurship at Appalachian State University. He has facilitated strategic planning retreats, contributed as a featured speaker on Small Business Funding Options for CVCC and Burke County Chamber Lunch and Learn. In addition he has worked with the ASU Walker School of Business in mentoring and pairing MBA students with businesses in the region for student practicums.
Byron has 30 years of experience in business, including commercial lending with major regional banks, management of a family business, as well as purchasing and managing a multi-million dollar grading and utility contractor in Winston-Salem. Byron lives in Winston-Salem with his wife and has one daughter in high school and three in college.
