Lumbee Tribe Enterprises, LLC is a Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina-owned small business established in May of 2011 to provide products and services to industry and government partners. LTE LLC is headquartered in Pembroke, NC and has a remote operating location in Stafford, VA. The Corporate Management staff of LTE LLC have been involved in Federal Government contracting for over thirty years, successfully establishing, building, and managing small business, including 8(a), Veteran-owned, Service Disabled Veteran-owned, and Native American-owned small businesses. The capabilities of LTE LLC are as diverse as the skill sets of the Lumbee Tribe. LTE LLC personnel have backgrounds in construction, manufacturing, engineering, information technology, management, human resources, finance, and the military.
SBTDC/PTAC counselors have been involved with the client, providing assistance since 2009, and are excited with the opportunity LTE LLC has been rewarded. As the goal of securing 8(a) status for the tribe developed, I worked with the various members developing the project, providing advice in understanding the 8(a) requirements, assistance in developing the application package, and review of the application. Now that the goal has been achieved, the hard work has really started. I am currently working with LTE LLC in developing their strategy going forward, and making the most of the 8(a) opportunity. In a recent meeting with the client, I was impressed with their emphasis of how to improve the business opportunities for the entire region.
Their persistence and vision was ultimately rewarded with their Tribal 8(a) Business Development Program certification from the SBA on October 14, 2014. SBTDC/PTAC are committed to continued service and support, with all of the resources available to us, to continue to assist LTE LLC in their efforts going forward.
One cannot stress enough, the potential benefits this hard earned certification will have for LTE LLC, but for the entire area. To quote Tribal Chairman Paul Brooks, “money generated through company projects could help fund scholarships and health care programs for tribal members. Today we are seeing the greatest economic development landmark in our tribe’s history,” Brooks said. “… The significant advantage is our ability to obtain contracts on a noncompetitive basis. I am looking forward with anticipation to the joy this job creation can bring to the Lumbee people.”
SBTDC/PTAC look forward to continuing to assist LTE LLC as they work towards achieving the success envisioned by Tribal Chairman Paul Brooks. As they are already beginning to experience success in Government Contracting through their participation in the Tribal 8(a) Business Development Program, SBTDC/PTAC is also committed to providing support and assistance to the entire region, helping to develop emerging local businesses. It is an exciting time for LTE LLC and for me also, just being associated with what promises to be a welcome boost for the local economy. Would it not be amazing if this were to eventually lead to a revision of the HUBZone Tier ratings for area?
