Heads Up – New SAM Requirement!

By George Griffin, SBTDC/PTAC Counselor at A&T University

Soon to come – New, Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Subpart 4.18 – Commercial and Government Entity Code (CAGE) requires business owners to answer questions about the entity’s ownership in order to maintain an active registration in SAM. Offerors, if owned or controlled by another entity, will be required to provide the contracting officer for their contract(s) the CAGE Code and legal name of that entity.

What does this requirement mean to you?

Any entity that has an immediate owner must supply additional information. An immediate owner is an entity other that the offeror that has direct control of the offeror. The requested CAGE or NCAGE (International Owner) information is for the highest-level owner. No one owns or exercises control over the highest level owner.

When you receive an email about the CAGE for the immediate owner, if that applies to you, then you need to go in and update your SAM. If the email does not, and you do not have an immediate owner, then you will not need to update your SAM registration until it’s about to expire.

The new Ownership questions will be in the “Core Data” section of you registration.

After receiving information about the above regulation contact your local PTAC counselor if assistance is needed. Please check your SAM expiration date as part of your year-end activities!
